About Commerce Department
Syamaprasad College, founded by Dr. Syamaprasad Mukherjee, came into existence in the city immediately after the end of World War II in 1945. It was then styled as Asutosh College of Commerce (evening section). So this college has its genesis in Asutosh College and has primarily been designed to meet the growing demand for higher education in Commerce among the emploted youth. This Evening Section was delinked from Asutosh College and acquired the status of a full-fledged independent college in 1958 with a separate Principal and separate management (i.e. Governing Body) under instruction from University Grants Commission and with the approval & affiliation of University of Calcutta. After the immature demise of Dr. Mukherjee, the ex-Vice Chancellor, Calcutta University resolved to perpetuate the memory of Dr. Mukherjee by renaming the college founded by him as “SYAMAPRASAD COLLEGE” in 1962.
Accounting and Finance
At the time of inception of the college in the year 1952, the commerce department with Accountancy Honours had been started and at that point of time the college had been named as Asutosh College of Commerce.
Accounting and Finance in B.Com helps the students to gather the basic knowledge of accountancy and along with that it enables the students to learn other relevant subjects like taxation, corporate and business laws, statistics, economics and so on.
Marketing
First year i.e. in the year 2003 B.Com Marketing Hons. has started with 9[Nine] students. Gradually, the craze of this Hons. course had increased among the students due to its unique syllabi and its job orientation. Most of the pass out students, right now, are working in the different corporate and some of the pass out students are right now doing their MBAs in renowned B- Schools.
The courseware of B.Com Marketing Hons. has been designed in such a manner that each and every students are getting benefitted to have glimpse of ideas regarding the current industry proceedings.
